Rainey Street Happy Hour Austin

Rainy Street has become the place to be seen in Austin these days. When I first moved to town 15 years ago. I don’t think there were more than 5 crappy excuses for dive bars in the area. There were even a few residentials houses still for sale. These days many of the old houses have been turned into really cool bars. It’s a little bit of a walk to the south of the heart of Dirty 6th, right next to the river and I-35. In recent years, the old house bars have also have to ne neighboors, giant skyscraper condos. The tallest building West of the Missisippi is being built just off Rainey St, and there are few other 50+ story building either on Rainey St, or just off it.

The Bars of Rainey St.

Anthem – This bar is 10 ft away from the front door of our new apartment. A frequent first stop now for a night on the town, or a great place for happy hour starters and sake bobs last night on a random weekday. Tike bar like with a modern Rainy Street twists.

Augustine Located in the heart of Rainey Street, this house bar was built it 1889 by an Augustus Basnett. Charming watering hole.

Moonshine – One of our favorite spots in the area, it’s not really on the strip of Raney St, but sort of on the way to dirty 6th. Happy Hours Monday – Thursday, 3-5:30

What happened to the Clown Bar?

One of my favorite bars ever was “The Clown Bar” on Rainey St. It was two levels with a slide from the top level down to the open backyard area. It had a clown theme, it was full of mis behaving. The owner was not the best and got into a lot of trouble, and the clown bar got leveled. So sad.

The Food Truck Park on Rainy Street

The food truck park is back with some fancy new fake grass and picknic tables. The options are still a bit limited with a Burger joint, a Gyro Place, and one other burch like thing. There is also the donut trailer just outside of the main food truck park.
