February is one of the “slow” months for events in Austin. A few more festivals than in January, but it’s the calm before the storm that kicks off with the hurricane of a party that is SXSW. It’s the music capital of the world, so there are always plenty of cool fun things to do in the ATX.

Carnival Brasileiro – Feb 5
Carnival in Austin is one of the biggest Brazilian Carnival celebrations outside Brazil according to their website. While this seems hard to believe, we have never made it to this event, and it isn’t always a known “thing” to the locals. It’s a big dance party that is a single night affair. No floats and this year it will be held at the Speakeasy bar downtown. Tickets are recommended in advance, and I could see this event selling out this year. Costumes are encouraged. From the picture I assume you would look like an idiot showing up in jeans and a dress shirt. Get their early if you want to get body painted.
Jo’s Chili Cook-Off – Feb 5
One of the first events of February in Austin. 16th Annual Chili Cook-Off. Entry to the event is free. wristband option at the event to taste chili from some of Austin’s best restaurants and amateur culinary talent. Live music & cold beer. It might be a little too cold from the first winter blast for us to make this one.
Bloody Mary Festival – Feb 11
A relatively new comer to the Austin festival schedule. Bloody Mary mixes and food is served up by local bars and restaurants and attendees get to vote for their favorites. Located on E 5 th Street in downtown ATX.
Austin Marathon – Feb 19
Typical there are about 20,000 racers. You can do a 1/2 marathon if you like, or just join the big block party downtown at the finish line. As of publishing time for this article, the marathon is still a go.
OUTsider Festival – Feb 15-19
OUTsider brings together Austin’s LGBTQI community for three days of creation and inspiration. This multidisciplinary art festival showcases film, performance art, music, visual art and more. Hosted at the VORTEX
Austin Oyster Festival – Feb 25
One of the newer festivals to ATX, we had a ball last year. It’s rain or shine with no refunds. Can’t send all the seafood back. $70 General Admission, 125 VIP includes entrance fee, live entertainment and 7 festival vouchers (valued at $5 each) . Additional $5 vouchers may be purchased inside the festival as needed. Pet Friendly.
